Why are you a business owner?

Want to avoid a truckload of heartache? Then you need to answer this existential question.

Why are you a business owner?

??

You heard me… Why not be an employee?

We all have different reasons, but at the heart of the decision to build a business there is a desire to control something. It may be earning potential, lifestyle, creative influence over what is sold or even workplace culture.

You can build a successful business. And that is the problem. Have you decided whose version of success you are building towards? Yours or someone else’s idea of success?

Even the most successful business can end up being a terrifying trap if you ignore how you are wired and your unique reasons for business ownership.

Immediate Action:

Ask yourself these questions:

  1. Why do I not want to be an employee?

  2. What do I hope to gain from business ownership?

  3. Who do I truly love to serve through my business?

Be honest. Is your business sending you towards these answers or away from them?

Here's the good news. It's your business... not just that... you also design the game you are trying to win. No one is forcing you to play the same game as other business owners are playing.

I would love to hear your reasons for starting (or wanting to start) your own business. If you need help clarifying your answers to these questions, lets set up a time to talk.
