The Technicians Trap
If you have a technicians mindset your business is in trouble.
You probably started your working life as a technician of some sort. A technician is someone who 'does' the work, and is praised for their skills and output.
As a business owner, the paradigm shifts. No longer do you focus on your personal output.
You have a responsibility to guide the output of others towards value creation for your customers (even solopreneurs must successfully guide themselves).
It is sufficient for a technician to 'do the work'. But an owner must ask 'why' and relentlessly align work to create value for their customers.
Immediate Action:
Take an activity that gets done on a daily basis.
Ask:
Why do we do this?
Does it add value to our customers?
If we didn't do this, would our customers mind?
What tweaks to this activity could we make to cause customers to say 'wow, I love this!'
I would love to hear of any surprising results from this short activity!
